Alchemy of Soulsseason 2 (Alchemy of Souls Part 2: Light and Shadow/환혼: 파트2) is the sequel of the Korean historical drama series of the same name. Directed by Park Joon-hwa and starring Lee Jae-wook, Go Yoon-jung, Hwang Min-hyun, Shin Seung-ho, Yoo Jun-sang, Oh Na-ra and Jo Jae-yoon, alongside other cast members, the show premiered on tvN on December 10, 2022.
The sequel brings the story 3 years after the tragic ending we witnessed in season 1, with Go Yoon-jung as the new female lead. As Jang Uk becomes a hunter of the soul-shifters, a young woman, a prisoner in her own home, seeks his help to reclaim her freedom.
tvN’s synopsis of the sequel reads:
JANG UK RETURNS FROM DEATH, AND THREE YEARS LATER, THE STORY OF THE MAGES UNFOLDS ANEW. JANG UK BECOMES A HUNTER OF THE SOUL-SHIFTERS WHEN A YOUNG WOMAN, A PRISONER IN HER OWN HOME, SEEKS HIS HELP TO RECLAIM HER FREEDOM.
Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Ending Explained
Alchemy of Souls season 2 episode 10 brought us to the end of this unforgettable season after starting with a storm that slowly brought us the light of a whole new day. With Jang Uk and Naksu’s story finally coming to an end, let us take a look at how the finale brought satisfaction to fans of the show with the ending that we all needed.
Towards the end of the episode, Jang Uk puts his plan into action as Jin Bu-yeon, Seo Yul, Go Won, Park Dang-gu, Jin Cho-yeon and Sang-ho take part in awakening the firebird. After burning the Unanimous Assembly and Jin Mu in the fire from the firebird, Jang Uk sends the firebird’s egg to Jin Bu-yeon through Dang-gu and Sang-ho.

After this, he makes his way to lake Gyeoncheondaeho while the others assemble near the constellation basin in Cheonbugwan. There, the seven stars that support the King’s star give their energies to support Jang Uk, but Dang-gu questions Bu-yeon and Seo Yul because there are only six people present.
Seo Yul tells him that there is another star present who is always close to Jang Uk while referring to Naksu and with this Jin Bu-yeon begins to awaken the firebird. The firebird soon comes to life and breaks through the skies of Daeho while astonishing people everywhere with its majestic appearance.
Jin Bu-yeon then leads the firebird to lake Gyeoncheondaeho where Jang Uk waits to fight this bringer of chaos to finally end its fear. Soon, the firebird arrives in front of Jang Uk and the two begin to fight, however, it doesn’t take long for Jang Uk to get the upper hand.
He then freezes the firebird to one place and draws a bow made out of his energy after which he shoots an arrow filled with his energy while Jin Bu-yeon transfers the energies of the seven stars into the arrow to support Jang Uk’s energy. The arrow hits the firebird and soon brings an end to the tyranny of this chaotic beast.
Jin Bu-yeon then informs everyone of the outcome after which she faints and comes face to face with Naksu in the soul pool where he fills Naksu’s soul with her own energy. Thus, she brings her back to life and sends a gift to the person who saved the world by bringing back his shadow that will never leave him.
The events then come to an end and we are taken to one year later in the future where calm fills Daeho. Park Jin and Kim Do-ju live a peaceful life while taking care of Park Dang-gu and Jin Cho-yeon’s twin boys while Jin Ho-kyung pushes the couple to have twin girls to inherit the Jin family name.
Elsewhere, Seo Yul takes up the responsibility to reestablish Jeonjinggak and opens it for everyone who has talent; thus, truly making it a place to exchange knowledge. Heo Yoon-ok too finds a person to spend her life with while rumours about the now-king Go Won are spreading across Daeho.
Words that Go Won is practising celibacy under master Lee have spread while he scoffs at it and scolds Naksu for not coming back to Daeho and helping him find a queen after promising to do so. He also misses Jang Uk and is assured by master Lee who agrees to help him make Jang Uk the new Gwanju.
Finally, Jang Uk and Naksu travel across the lands to find the relics of Jinyowon that had escaped and work hard each day to bring peace everywhere. But not without bickering like their usual selves and fighting together like the power couple that they are.
