Denton ISD Summer Learning

Summer learning is a free opportunity for currently enrolled students to get ahead in classes they excel in, or get the help they need to succeed in the next school year.

Students have to spend 180 days in class for a minimum of 75,600 instructional minutes.

The Jump Start program is designed to prepare students for success in the upcoming school year by “frontloading” new learning for students so that they are more likely to experience success in the coming school year.

Grade Point Average

GPA and rank are calculated on a 4-point scale with a 1-point bonus for IB, Honors, AP, and Dual credit classes. Only 18 (36 semesters) academic foundation courses are used in the calculation.

According to Texas state law and Board policy, a student is required to be in attendance at least 90% of the days school or classes are offered. If a student misses more than 10% or approximately 18 days of school, they must make up class time or they will not earn credit for class or a final grade.

(B) The program shall be operated on a one-half day basis, a minimum of three hours each day, for eight weeks or the equivalent of 120 hours of instruction.

Summer hours run Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from May 28 through Friday, July 19. All Denton ISD campuses and offices will be closed to the public every Friday through July 19. Denton ISD will also be closed on July 4 and 5, in observance of Independence Day.

JumpStart provides training on demand, to youth across South Africa. JumpStart training takes place in major South African cities, including Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. Training is area specific and depends on demand from industry.

The Jumpstart session provides children with a balance of individual and group learning, quiet and active learning, and child- and adult-initiated learning.
