Awesome activity for A Gettysburg trip.

Excellent experience. Everyone was professional and courteous. The horses are well cared for and look great. We had Loki, KV, Burt and Sterling. We loved the ride and history. Our guide shared alot of great stories along the ride. The ride is on the actual battlefield! So If you're a history buff you will love. Great experience!!!!!

The highlight of our Gettysburg trip!

This was amazing way to experience Gettysburg. The staff is very knowledgeable about history, but also devoted to caring for their rescue horses and teaching people about horses. Their animals are well taken care of which was very important to us. My daughter was nervous to ride and ended up feeling confident and proud. We all had a great time and will definitely come back! Highly recommended!

Wow!! What a great experience!! Lovely horses, Staff is just amazing!!

Wow!! This was our last day in Gettysburg, and the highlight was this place. Terri came to meet the people who had signed up for a guided tour through the battlegrounds on horseback. Terri is registered with the National Park, so she was very informative on the battle grounds. One of the best parts was the 1/2 hour before the ride. We had to sign in and as a group she explained what to do on the trail as we ride, what to expect from certain horses that like to try to grab grass when stopped, what to do and not do. She is very gentle with all of these horses. They even make their own horse fly spray that is safe for humans and horses. We were told our horses name and something about each one before they were brought to us. These are all rescue horses with different stories. It had brought tears to my eyes both for these animals who were mistreated, and for the kindness that they are shown now. All the trail horses were nursed back to health. I had Sebastian who is 1/2 Tennessee Walker and maybe Quarter horse. Such a love!! Found out he was an entertainment horse. He showed one aspect of this by trying to take a water bottle out of Terri's daughters pocket who was walking by us on the trail. I rode him without a bit on his bridle.( that amazed me) My husband rode Simon who was made the lead horse. From what we were told Simon usually does not lead, but so loved doing it today. The horses know the route, even know where the stops are so Terri can explain the different parts we were at in the battlefield. Her daughter walked along side the horses to make sure everything was good, and to keep horse flies off the animals when needed. She was very personal, and made it a fun time. A staff member was always at the street crossings to stop traffic so we can cross safely with our horses. Sebastian started to limp when we were almost back to the stables I told Terri's daughter and she immediately checked his hoof, brushed out what she could, and said she will check him out fully when we are back. It was probably a stone in there, which she seemed to get out. But seeing how they address any issues right away, makes me want to come back again to this stable. Don't hesitate to take this tour with these beautiful animals, and wonderful hard working staff who seem to love what they do.

    Highly recommend National Riding Stables!

We recently took a weeklong roadtrip to Gettysburg and the DC area and our experience at National Riding Stables was a highlight. Terri and Makayla were very professional and knowledgeable guides (both about the rescue horses and the Battle of Gettysburg). My 11 year son was very nervous about riding, but his horse Pretzel was a very good boy that put him at ease. We learned some stories about what the residents of Gettysburg experienced before, during, and after the battle that we hadn't heard elsewhere. Terri and Makayla also took a ton of pictures of our family that they sent to us which is greatly appreciated!

What a great experience!

Oct 2017 • Friends

So I go to Gettysburg every year in October and this was the first time I ever did the battlefield tour on horseback. What an amazing experience. Not only do you get the view as the soldier's on horseback did but I learned a lot of new things that I didn't know before. The guide was amazing, she really brought the battle to 'life' in our eyes. The staff was amazing! They have rescued their horses and you can tell that they all love and care for them very much. You can tell the horses love their handlers as well with the way they interact with them. This is a wonderful experience for the novice rider or the experienced rider. They are all very attentive to the guests and make sure they are all comfortable. I know there are other horseback tour facilities in the Gettysburg area but these guys are top notch. I would much rather spend my money on an organization that rescues their animals and gives them the love & attention they deserve then just a touring company. I recommend wearing loose jeans and maybe some old shoes or boots. I can't wait to go back next year and I'm going to request the same horse! Amazing experience for all ages!! Thank you National Riding Stables for all you do - your animals love you for it!

Great experience!

Oct 2017 • Couples

We decided to experience the battlefield on horseback and with a Licensed Guide. Our trip was great. Terry, who is also the owner, was very informative and helpful to the not so experienced rider. Everyone was very pleasant. The horses were great. Definitely recommend using the National Riding Stables. We would like to do it again.

A great experience for someone who hasn't been on a horse in 42 years!

Oct 2017 • Solo

If you want to see the battlegrounds in Gettysburg, this is the way to see them! I have to admit, I was nervous about getting on a horse after so many years but these guides and trainers are amazing! The horses are rescues and so well taken care of. This was such a great experience. Take a chance and get on a horse, maybe for the first time or, like me, after decades. You will enjoy the experience!! Thank you National Riding Stables!

So much fun!

Oct 2017 • Couples

This is the way to view the battlegrounds and hear the history from a Licensed Guide, Terry, who is also the owner of the stable. She was wonderful, patient and made the history so interesting and easy to understand. She is very knowledgeable and knows how to tell the history of the battles. The horses were great and easygoing. Riding along the trail is not to be missed. We want to come back for the 4 hour ride!

Best Ride Ever!

Sept 2017

This is my second time taking the riding tour through the battle field and the second time with Terry and her stable. I will ride with no one else. I can see how she and her staff care for their animals and it makes me even happier that she rescues them from abuse or slaughter. She is a knowledgeable guide and even though she could not ride due to a recent surgery she drove to every stopping point and gave us the history. You might find a cheaper option but you will get what you pay for and I will gladly pay the extra to ride at the national riding stable in Gettysburg!

View from the back of a horse

Sept 2017 • Couples

This was our second horseback ride in Gettysburg and it was wonderful. This trip took us from the opposite of the battlefield so it was great to have a different perspective. Just loved the fact that all the horses were rescued. Animal rescues are near and dear to my heart. Terry was great in giving directions on how to ride and treat the horses and our wranglers were great in making sure everyone was doing well. I got to ride Hank and my husband rode Simon. They were awesome mounts and can't wait to go back some time in the future!!

Best part of our visit!

Sept 2017 • Couples

This visit to Gettysburg was a birthday gift to my husband, but I couldn't wait to go too. Meghan and all the rest of the wranglers were so helpful and professional. The tour guide, Terry, was wonderful she really put us "in the moment" such exciting stories of the Civil War and sad ones too obviously. I am embarrassed to say I went in very uninformed but left with so much information about the Civil war I can't wait to read some books on it and learn even more.
The horseback tour was definitely the highlight of our visit. Thank you to all of the people at National Riding Stables.
Highly recommend NRS & it's tour.

Wonderful!

Sept 2017 • Couples

We had the best time on this ride! Terry and the wranglers were all wonderful and the horses were so well-behaved, (which was great because I was a little terrified at first!) The battlefield is beautiful from the horseback perspective and I highly recommend!

Wonderful Battlefield experience!

Sept 2017 • Couples

We have toured the battlefield before, but seeing it on horseback gives you a totally different perspective! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, both about history and their horses. The animals were well trained, well cared for rescue horses. The staff carefully matched riders and animals based on size and experience. We are both riders, but the staff went out of their way to help less experienced riders, even walking the whole trail with us to ensure that everyone had a great ride. We would highly recommend National Riding Stables and hope to ride with them again.
