I don't care how bad your unit economics are to impose these kinds of fees. If you think nickel and diming your drivers and then causing the city to impose ridiculous fees to cover wages will drive more revenue, you'd be mistaken. I am not paying $19.49 in fees for something that costs $19. (even after I pay for Uber one). In the virtue of collecting more funds to pay drivers, you will lose business and end up with lower payouts anyway. Food delivery platforms are highly unprofitable and extremely unsustainable."They’re not telling the whole story," Shagen said. I don’t see why this should shock anyone. More than anything, this is what the gig economy should be: independent contractors offering their services to the highest bidders. If you don’t want delivery fees, be prepared to make the deal sweeter for your driver. If you don’t want to pre-tip, then expect higher fees. If you want to pay less money, pick up your own food/groceries. If you want a consistent price with a simpler cost/value exchange, order delivery directly from the restaurants that have their own delivery drivers. I don’t see a problem here.

I’d like to personally challenge DoorDash’s CEO, Tony Xu, to meet with Dashers across the nation and ask them about their experience as Dashers with a primary focus on what it is like dealing with Dasher Support. I am more than happy to initiate the conversation myself with the purpose of improving relations across the board.In the past, I’ve been very vocal about my stance on both outsourcing and DoorDash’s support team. To nobody’s surprise, I am far from satisfied with either. My relationship with DoorDash consists of being both a consumer and an independent contractor doing deliveries for DoorDash. Therefore, I have several years of experience in both areas. Instead of trashing the entire company, I want to bring attention to a very severe problem within the DoorDash platform as well as extend the offer of taking this project on myself voluntarily if it means the development of a well-oiled, fool-proof, results oriented department that is currently impacting consumers, Dashers, stakeholders, and the overall company negatively. I believe in DoorDash and am impressed at their exponential ability to grow and be a leader in the food delivery business. I am thankful to be given the opportunity to deliver to the wonderful people in my community. As an unemployed single mother, I am grateful that DoorDash has provided me the ability to bring in income while maintaining balance within my home. Because of this, it is not my intent to bring negative light to this company but rather to voice an area of concern that I know has full capability of being enhanced in order to yield higher earnings as well as accomplish the task of making sure the “little guys” whom DoorDash relies on in order to operate and bring forth said earnings, are satisfied. Because right now we (Dashers) are not and it is bleeding into the satisfaction of consumers as witnessed through several social media platforms. As an entrepreneur who is launching their own business soon, I understand firsthand how much work goes into establishing a company. I know it’s a winding road met with roadblocks, sleepless nights, tears, deadlines, surviving on coffee and fast food at times, loss of relationships, etc. Most frustrating is the lack of available time to accomplish everything if you’re working by yourself. For those who manage to conquer the marathon and become an internationally recognized company, big congratulations are always deserved. But this is where loss of oversight can creep in and it’s not always because of a greedy, uninterested CEO, rather the lack of time or lack of information to be able to address issues that arise. It is my hope that Dashers can work with DoorDash corporate employees to discuss and develop a system that improves satisfaction for everybody involved.
